my best moment as an nsf

the journey came on the 1st day touched down the airport of brunei. we were immediately hurry onto a bus which is ard 3am plus, then took ard an hour of bus to reach the ferry terminal, took ard an hour of ferry, by the time we reach its was day light, the journey on the speed boat was long, and long waiting. and next moment we were transferred onto a bus to get to the LC. It was a small camp, followed by a series of in-process, keep our controlled items such as cameras, any storage devices, let us settle down asap...
the next few days, the lessons were thick and fast... cpt suhbas, msg philip, staff seah, lta poon, and more to name, they were awesome. esp msg philip, an awesome guy with his patience, i realised that army is not about scolding, and all the F* words, but the respect the course for him is immense. cpt subhas, a humorous guy, with his 'kumbayang', 'whoha!', nv fail to make our day...
the lesson were of course prep us for the course, like A-frame, survival courses,killing of animals. and identifying of edible fruits.

the first ex. is nomad, it was really tough, its was 3 days, and for those 3 days, i nv eat any other thing, other a packet of biscuit a day, and keep drinking salt water to replenish my salt loss..

then immediately we transit into explorer. it was no better climbing up and down the mt, the knolls, with an heavy fieldpack, signal set, it was killing...
i rmb when i was on one of the mountain, it was raining for the whole day, i was drenched from top to bottom to socks. terrible feeling... i tried to slp at 7plus, but instead, i couldn't toss and turn till 11 plus, i found myself shivering, trembling.
finally, i couldn't take it, i woke up to set up a little fire, i also didn't know why im able to start fire, as the fire woods were pretty wet. that night i was like hugging the person beside me, he almost couldn't make it... that was the 3rd day night.

during survival as well, thunderstorm that night, 5 of us was under an A-frame, we were taking cock, singing, thinking about wad to eat, and all the crap. i was drenched, soaking wet, that night were better, i slpt with the plastic bag as my blanket, still shivering, but i din start fire this time, as i have very limited fuel... all those could be burn are burnt, FAD, toilet papers etcs..

all those are the nights that make it stronger, prouder.
on the assessment day, somehow, i feel a sense confidence, i din't afraid that i would fail, cos i was pretty sure i did a solid job.

it was the moment when the i shook the LC commander hand and he handed me the cert with the badge. i knew chances like this come only once in a life time.
Like they say, respect those who have the courage to come for the course,
salute those who failed and come again, and again for the course.

it was tough. but i always told myself 'every step i take, brings me 1 step closer to home'

it was really shag, so shag that that half through the 24km i tell myself do i really wanna continue? feel like giving up.. i dunno why so shag, probably i dun have enough slp, plus heavy flu, or simply, im unfit.. nevertheless, i completed it, end result, my feet full of blisters. at 20km mark, i tell myself im not going to march with FBO again...

its only 24h later, i've changed, my enthusiasm, my passion... I looking forward to my JCC selection. I WANNA MAKE IT TO LC in Brunei.
that's me, i can be down, but i'll be back, prove myself...

i just regret that i make a wrong decision before i enlist..

it has been ages since i last blogged. but again, there has been so many things happened in between this period..
inc the unforgettable 32km march(certain things happen that i'll probably remember for a very very long time, and changed my view towards SAF)
the Thailand training, during cobr*, outfield. trying to cook eggs, buy drinks, eat insects, desperately catch a chicken! ect.. all crazy and random i did. but i really fancy outfield, the only thing i hate is that i can't bathe.

bad things aside, i still have something good about SAF, i feel i have change for the better, better understanding of protection the nation, though not all...

i just thought about my army life, then what are the things i did that can do better.

as for current army life, i'm too slack. i want more, more.we are only company in the school that haven't gone for any run i guess.

i know i would complain, curse, bear grudges, but perhaps i prefer that someway or another...

and i have a buddy holds a Honour. yes, he is a graduate! he is same age as me...

that's difference of money, of course there is hardwork too!

What 6 months can do, its a huge difference for oil prices.
it was in only July that the oil price almost hit US150 per barrel, some even predicted that it will go on to US200. At that point, i know that there were really a panic in the market, inflation rocket high, SMEs find it hard to cope with the increasing transportation cost.
Barely 6 months on the oil price is now less than US50 per barrel. that's 1/3 of of what when its peak, and now its struggling to meet 45 per barrel. Even though OPEC threaten to servery cut production. It obvious that global slowdown play part in the price freefall. however, i believed that speculation has played a major part in earlier part of the high oil prices, as the global slowdown obviously does not proportional to the drop in oil price.
if China's economy is gonna slowdown as it is now surfacing. demand is gonna hit Opec hard. with Merill Lynch predicted that price is further plummet to app US25 per barrel. That's going to temporarily though.

it was really shag, the most shag day since day 1.. haha.

its really really a bad day, the market is just spiral down down below 10,000 points during the overnight market in US.
the market is containing too much fear, and that's the main reason for the market enter into free falling, as they are doubting whether the 700 bn bailout will work, and fearing that economy will fall into recession(in fact alot of economists believe that US already in recession)

What started as a Sub-prime credit crisis in US already become a global economic crisis(its no longer financial crisis). It has spread to EU,UK. US's close Allies. with major financial institutes such as Fortis and Hypo are in danger. The fear has spread to EU.
Initially, Germany(biggest financial influence in EU) rejects the plan of any US like bailout plan, or guarantee the deposits in bank. Now they step up and trying to stabilized the market by announcing that they guarantee the UNLIMITED amount of deposits. I'm not too sure about the US like bailout plan, but if they need it, i think the Germans will be forced into having a plan like this, if ever the situation deteriorates. They must act fast though(to prevent the market making false rumours)

something is quite obvious, the Asia has not enter into the picture, you can't predict how the financial tornado will move, or will slowly reduce its deadly spins. the current financial states news is still obscure, but i believe, that given the different culture(asians tend to be more conservative), Asia will be able to weather the storm, but not unscathed, probably hurt, but won't be deadly.

we will just have to wait and see...

Whether anot the congress pass the 700bn bailout, one thing is certain, is that US national debt is ballooning to 10trillion! that's a staggering 12 "0". consider that US est GDP is 13.87 trillion.

but NO! its a DEBT, you need to finance the INTEREST!
how much interest can you are going to pay. lets say 1%(i'm sure more than this amount)
your are going to pay 100bn of interest annually alone, without principal repayment.

i'm not sure how they are going to finance this amount of debts, but what i know is that they need to change the whole system, because they are coming up with huge deficit. you can't consume more than what you export.

well, i think the long term future looks bleak, not being pessimistic. but i think US will slowly fade away in its influence in next half century or so...

tht 700bn deal was rejected by the US congress, with vote 225 vs 206(if i remb correctly). mainly due to the fact that most voters afraid that their votes are going for a decline(as their supporters aren't the supporter of this package.)

during this period, i think there is only 2 options for your money, which are MONEY and GOLD, money is king, while gold, with market riding roller coaster. gold could provide a safe umbrella.

for Asia, i'm more concern about the Singapore, i believe the market to be relative resilient, as most asians tents to be more conservatives, but if ever spread to singapore, i will cut of the poison, and save my life.

with the financial turmoil still going on, stock market fluctuates like roller-coasters.

the banks with cautios management with huge liquality will be the biggers winners and so the professional short sellers, can you imaging AIG stock fall from over 90 dollar to 1.8 dollars?? how much would they stand to gain??! billions, and billions
and the banks, can you imaging Merill Lynch that's more than 3 times of valus(50billion) of its acquisition price only last year. i would say BOA snapped up at a great deal.
Merill Lynch probabaly have learnt the lesson of LEhman brothers who announce bankruptcy hours be4 its sale to BOA. there's ony choice left other than following LB's footstep, because they know Fed and gov probabaly won't be bailing them out.

with so many banks and investment institutes drying in their liquiditly, many of them face the consequences of bankrupty, acquisition, and mergers. those with deep pockets will probably stand to gain...

as for how long the turmoil will goes on, i think that's a billion dollar qn. some might think the worst week has been past. while others think there's more to come.
i would agree with the former, as some of the top US investment institutes are already either bankrupt, sold, or bailed. however, i just waiting to see how AIG cope with their so called debts, from what i know they need more than 100billions, and only 85billions are borrowed from gov. there is a shortage, with the financial market being so tight, nobody wanna part with their money easily.

personal perspective, i do not wish to see AIG to fill bankruptcy proctections, as MY DAD AND MUM BOUGHT INSURANCE FROM AIA.

that would be disasterous.

从小我爸妈就到处跑，就为了赚几个钱。当时我们家是挺穷的，我记得我小时候，每天上学前的早餐都是稀饭+酱油+一个水煮鸡蛋。每天我爸爸踏着那个老久的脚踏车载我去学校。
后来我爸爸出国了，去了新加坡，我跟我妈就两个人，那是我们受到了很多人欺负，。
我妈还要去做工，卖东西。。没人照顾我，我奶奶爷爷那时都不怎么喜欢我，没带我，所以我就被丢在了我外婆家。
其实小时候很懂事，我从来就不要求什么大鱼大肉，字要有一个鸡蛋就好了。而我外公外婆，也最疼我，我记得我小时候，我外婆背着我去街上卖东西，要经过一条河，那条河只有一个0.5m宽的独木桥，我很胆小，每次都怕，我还是爬着过河，每次都是我外婆背着我。我基本上都不记得我小时候有玩过什么玩具，基本上都是在田里，山里跑。那也是我很特别的回忆，也是我和我周边的人不同之处。
很多时候我想回去，我都很后悔我没有真正的对我外婆孝顺过。因为她没能等我懂事。。。
上一次我回去，我就陪我外公冬天早上去跑步。。我带她去看医生，当时在等taxi, 我跟他说，外公，等我有了钱我一定买一辆车来载你，当时他听得很高兴。

first its bear stearns, then freddie and fannie, now Lehmen Brothers filled for bankruptcy and last night's speedy takeover of Merrill Lynch by BOA(bank of america) spells the 'centrury financial crisis'
its still unclear how much its going to go, but i believe the take over and bankruptcy to clear some uncertaintity in the market.
the next 'target' is AIG, US biggest insuring company by asset. its still to be see if they ended up like those stated above. its interesting to see what will happened to them

DOws fell 500+points last night!!! its unbelieveable and its hitting the 10000 points.
STI will probably ended up in free falling as well especially banking stocks leading the pack.
i think the local banking stocks are a little over sold if you are believing that the local foundation are good and some of the banks stated that their banks are exposed to the minimum. and strong profits. its just the macroencons are affecting them.

i looks like joe can't fulfill his dream of working in former world's largest retail brokerage Merrill Lynch after the exordinary take over.

the oil price is on the verge of breaking $100, until opec to cut oil supply.
due to the slowing demand led by the biggest consumer US.
the credit crisis has spread to the world and i think the oil price will continue to slide. but it won't be too low, as the Opec will cut supply(as they have been doing so) to keep the price up, as i have said probably 100 to 120 per barrel.
it's a million dollar qn as how how they wanna keep the price at, as too much will speed up the proCess of develping of substitional renewable energy, and they won't keep it too low definitely, who doesn't wanna make most profit.

oil price too high, pp fear high inflation will eliminate growth,
oil price side, pp also fear econmoic is in poor condition.

Is foreigners snatching away the local's 'rice bowl'? think again.

i think its right to say that foreigners are helping to drive the singapore economy.

let's paint a scenario in my understanding.

a foreigner come to singapore, and wanted to set up a microchip production plant.
and they need 20 workers. out of which 5 are going to be locals be it manager or supervisors(because they are skilled workers) and the rest are production operators.(you need them because if not they won't come and setup plant here.)

yes, it's true that foreigners are occupying more than locals.

but let's say, singapore government intent to impose a rule that all muz be singapore!

then fine, they have got no chance but to followed the rule that's laid out.

most probably, those micro chips are either produced at a loss or their price are not competitive enough to be sold.

so, the company have to make losses!!

what is the main goal of incorporate company? profit!!!

therefore, company shut down and shift to neighbouring countries.

when that happens, you lose 20 job opportunities, inc 5 locals!

in the end, government lose tax(on company and personal tax) and locals lose job.
this is a double blow.

No doubt its is a double edge decision, but as every decision you makes, you lose and gain some. is that what we call opportunity cost.

every decsion we make has its negative side, Eg, lower interest rate, increase spending, and increase inflation.
the fact that you need to strike a balance.

i beg to differ.

1) i must agree with the organizer's way of doing, because they must have their reason, perhaps the behind-the-scene girl might not be just as composed as the on-stage lit girl, or perhaps the B-T-S girl just not as cute as the on-stage girl.

the organizer have the right to pre-record the song, as its live telecast to billions of views over the world. such a big event, you can't afford to have any mistake. kids have less control over their emotion and control of stress, so must be very careful and selective of the most composed singer.

next, even though the secret was exposed, but i don't think it affects that much compare those full time celebrities whose rice bowl is depended on the audience. they are just kids??!! their future isn't depended on this?! and lit kids aren't going to know and care what is 'fame' and 他们有多红。

lastly, the grand opening is not a concert。 though both audience paid their entrance fee to see the show. grand opening are for different reasons as concert.

when i heard others opinion that one day the Singapore exchange rate with dollar will be 1:1. i almost buy into that theory.

but not， i don't think so.. if its gonna happen it will probably take decades.

why?

if dollar really gonna devalue that much. you could see that in our situation where dollar only devalue a handful percentage. it has cause so much chaos.

there is no doubt America is still the world locomotive, even though its losing its influence. but the fact is that consumes world's half of the products!!!

if dollar devalues, it would mean that money cannot buy much things, their import will sharply decreases.

This will greatly damage the developing countries where their main income is dependent on exports, with world's largest importer cutting back due to devalue of dollar.
when develping countries cut back on import, you can affect a series events from unemployment, depreciation of money to social unrest.

next, most of commodities if not all are traded in Dollars, devalue dollars means that they need more Dollar to buy same barrel of oil, bushel of wheat. this will cause inflation around the world.

together with the cut back of import from US and higher cost of living due to weak dollars, means that will be stagflation!!!

no joke, its what we are facing, i'm sure nobody wanna see this happen,
most government would not wanna see that happened, esp china, that would mean their US forex exchange are turning into papers. bear in mind that more than 1 trillion of Forex.(i dont think they are all dollars though)

at a more personal perspective, some will like, as it means that traveling to US will be cheaper.

therefore i think US dollar is not going to devalue that much at least within these coming 2, 3 decades.

but i believe that the center of global economic is shifting away from US.
Asia will have more potential, almost 1 in 4 human being on earth is in China, that tells part of story. We still have to see how China's growth in next decade, especially after the Olympics. of course there is EU.

Bear in mind that the rules of economic games are laid down by the world economic leaders(currently still US). But i can't wait to see China turn to be a world superpower(economic but not military) in my lifetime.

Anglo Saxon economic or strategic conquest economic.

this is the difference between US and Japan.

anglo Saxon emphasized on consumption while Japanese's way is the later more towards having a bigger market share.

we can be seem that most american companies are more in mostly towards profit maximaztion. while Japanese firm are more towards conquering market shares.

while american based company give out(dividend) most of their profit to their shareholders, Japan is the other way round, due to the after WII, japan has adopted that they spend most of their profit in investment and expansion. this has brought into the culture of the japanese.
but why would they they accept such of term with less dividend/pay, they probably make up for that by life-time employment, pension and good career route.

Under Anglo saxon economic, workers are part of the equipment to be used to make the product.
while strategic conquering put emphasis on team, workers are part of the team, and soldier.

while all organization must be profit base. AS economic put their everything on put maximization. while profit is just the product that came along after they make the firm successful.

it seems like the japanese's way is better and more successful.
but its diffcult to measure all those.
General Motor and Toyota are gaining more market share in US compared to the past few decades, in fact they have almost driven out most of the european car makers such as Fiat,Rovers, Peogeot,(i think i spelled it wrongly), and even Volkswagen. increasing gaining market share against the 'local' giants such as Ford, crystler. with their　Lexus, etc.
however, with facing economic downturn, its difficult for the jap firm to continue to give jobs to employees(life time employment), pensions etc. furthermore, its difficult for even the smartest, most determine foreign worker to promote to the top rank. difficult to retain talents.

one thing have to remember, The greats that are admired and respected are conquerers and builders and not consumers.
we have to strike a balance. Most rich people have enough money to serve them many generations, but they continue... they are conquerers, builders. we need to unearth those instincts.

the oil price has been shooting up the sky.
i must admit that i'm feeling the stress, not because i pump alot of oil, but its affecting the stock market. i know that its affecting everything and everyone from biscuit to shoes.

it all started with a US sub prime crisis, but now the problem has spread across all over the major economies, and sectors.

with Fed reducing the interest rate to prevent the credit crunch worsen further, it also increase the inflation as borrowing becomes easier. speculators may have taken this opportunity to speculate the oil price, cause the oil price to spike to more than double in the past year.

in addtional, weaken greenback means that investors hedge by buying into commodities, this is also another reason why the price spike in the past year.

one can argue that with rising economy and china and india, the demand is higher, but according to the report, both economy demand for oil is increasing steadily, and not a suddenly surge.

increasing oil prices means everything is becoming more expensive, and trim of the profits off the organizations. and the growth rate of a nation.

with oil price currently standing at over 140+ dollar a barrel. many would predict that it will continue its trend. A US 200/barrel is no longer impossible.

though the oil price is currently consider 'cheap' given that a (barrel = 159 liter) cost US140+ that is equivalent to around 90 us cent/liter. which is unusual as cost of a liter of water is already similar price.(used to be dirt cheap in the 1990s when oil is a few cents per liter) this is illogical as renewable resources are more/equivalent to non-renewable resources.

however, oil price that strike above US 200 would not be very welcomed by OPEC, as this would encourage the world to look for alternatives(in fact they already started doing so.) which would lead to lesser demand of oil.
if cost of R&D is less or equal or even near to oil price, this is definitely very encouraging. the Opec would definitely lower their oil price to make those R&D a loss!

in fact, oil is addictive, like a drug, when its cheap, everyone would not bother look for alternatives, as looking for alternative are costly. vice versa. meanwhile Opec benifited from the high oil price, they are also careful that it does not allow those go over the limit.

lastly, i would deem that US 100 to 120 would be a reasonable price. that inc anything like there isn't any major disruption at any oil producers espcially Iran who holds 4.3 million barrels a day of which 2.5 million are exported. there also many other factors, such as housing crunch, interest rate, etc.

well, one must be reminded that stock market is like "planting the seed of growth" there is winter and drop, there is spring and rises. you have got to stick to it and you will reap what you sow.

and almost everyday, i will read newspapers. and i realised that newspapers is not fully occupied. i must find something else to do.

recently i have read about the the increase production of the crop, e price of commodities are declining.(except oil of course) but the importers said that they are not ready to decrease the price anytime soon, as they are still holding on the stocks that are bought at a higher price.

i thought this is quite some kind of unreasonable remark, as they increased the price of the rice quite shortly after the rice shot up the sky around 6 mths back.
this doesn't take into the consideration of the amount of stocks(rice) they held at a lower price! i think they are making huge profit on those old stocks that are selling at a high price.
but now, when the price declines, the price is not reduced...
that is from the point of consumers.

well, from point of sellers, i think its right to do so.. =)

MANCHESTER UNITED CHAMPIONS OF EUROPE 2007 - 2008

i woke up at 2am and called leo to make sure that i he is awake so that i could go over. haha... Don on my red devil jersey, and rushed out.

the match was absolutely nail bitting, the first 30mins or so, man utd were simply sensational, it seems as though they are going to kill chelsea as though they are going to smash them 7-1 past then as they did with Roma. it was turn out the way, instead chealsa leveled with a 'lucky' goal that deflected 2 times and could gone anywhere but at lampard's way. i suspect they were a little complacent. damn. they missed a host of chance, that would kill off the game.

in the 2nd half, its chelsea's domination, to be fair, i thought chelsea might just pull off a win, they have some unbelievably bad luck. hit the pole, the bar.
but deep down, i know its a cup belongs to man utd, fingers crossed.

during the penalty shoot-out, my heart is literally in my mouth. i fell in agony and disbelieve that ronaldo missed the penalty..
i placed doubt on my gut feeling that UTD were going to be the champion when J. Terry run prepare for the penalty, knowing that if he scores, my heart would shattered.

HE SLIPPED!!! and bang the ball wide off the target! i was jumping in joy, share my happiness with leo, who slept through the whole match only woke up during PK. zzzzz

unbelievably bad luck today...
went to library, i found 1 recipe book and a fiction book, but at the kiosk, i found out that my card have outstanding, so i went to another kiosk try to clear my 'debts', i found out that my e-zlink card not enough cash. searched my body, no NETS as well.

no choice but to left the books there, agh, only after that i realised that i forgot to take my book-mark as well...alright, that is only the beginning.

at night Mahjong, could not believe that i actually have 4 or 5 consecutive game have 4 'tai' and above, 听牌了！！！but then kena '胡' by others. even the last match also like that.. zzzzz

what to do, hahaha... at least tmr morning my breakfast is on leo's bill. that'a abit of consolation.
